Maria Brereton’s art photographed
My dab at photographing artwork was a success. Using color correct lights with reflectors and/or diffusers, I was able to take an art piece and get a very high resolution digital file. My friend and artist, Maria Brereton, will be able to have commercial prints made, list on her website, make up business cards, postcards, mailers, etc. She will receive her files in the sizes that she needs and I will even give her the subdirectory with the images copyrighted so that she can put them on her web site as I have done here.
The art pieces were photographed with my Canon 1ds MkIII camera which produces a 21 meg file in a 2 to 3 ratio. The largest size I worked up is a 24 x 36 image. But this camera can actually go to 5’ wide. They were post processed in Photoshop to keep the original rectangular size without losing any edges. I preferred to get them out of their glass framing but could leave the matting on. I did realize that it would have been good to have the originals on hand to make sure the colors stayed as close to original as possible. Actually, if needed and wanted, I think the digital images could actually look better than the original. My monitors are color calibrated and I use color correct lamps in my office.
Printing is a whole other ball game. One must know how to get the image ready for the degrading it goes through to change from an image viewed through light on a monitor to light going through ink and bouncing back from white on paper. But I believe I have that down which by the way will actually give you grey hairs to figure out. I use an Epson R1800 printer that printed beautifully. The files that I give an artist should only go to a quality print lab.
So enjoy Maria’s art as shown here. Keep in mind that you are only looking at a 4×6 72 resolution file here where the print versions are 300 resolution in much larger sizes. They are detailed.

Noni: I had two 16 x 20 prints made of the water art paintings you photographed and they are just wonderful. I will be having a solo show in January and plan to make many more prints. Thanks for the beautiful photography. I may try to change my website to MBimages in a few days.
Thanks Maria! I really enjoyed trying my hand at this and I’m glad it worked out for you.
